How to reach Rajballavi Mata Temple

Location: Situated roughly 65 km Northwest of Kolkata.

By Train (Recommended):

  • The Rajballavi Temple in Rajbalhat, Hooghly, is best accessed from Howrah via suburban train to Haripal or Tarakeswar stations, followed by local transport like trekkers, autos, or rickshaws.

By Road/Car:

  • From Kolkata/Howrah: Drive via Dankuni /Mosat/ Chanditala /Gajar more to reach Rajbalhat via 26 no route
  • Via Domjur / Jagatballavpur / Rahimpur
  • By Bus: Direct buses are available from Howrah to Rajbalhat, or you can take a bus to Mayer Bari , Hattola Bus Stand .
  • Local Transport: Once in Rajbalhat, toto or rickshaws are available to travel within the village to the temple.

The East India Company established a commercial residency in 1789 due to the area’s significance in the silk industry. Known historically as an important silk and textile center, the tradition of handloom weaving continues to this day.

Terracotta panels from the 18th century in the area often reflect colonial interactions, featuring depictions of European soldiers, ships, and cannons.

The town is named after the presiding deity, Rajballavi, a unique form of Shakti (associated with Durga, Kali, and Saraswati). The 16th-century temple is very much active, though it has been extensively renovated.
